Chylothorax complicating pneumonectomy.

چکیده
Chylothorax is an uncommon clinical entity caused by obstruction or rupture of the thoracic duct. Malignant disease, mostly lymphoma or metastatic carcinoma, accounts for half and surgical trauma for a quarter of all cases.' Occasionally, chylothorax is caused by thrombosis of the great veins, benign cysts, or lymphangiomas of the thoracic duct, tuberculosis, mediastinitis, paravertebral abscess, filariasis, or amyloidosis. We present an unusual case of postpneumonectomy chylothorax with serious haemodynamic effects necessitating reoperation.

Tension chylothorax following pneumonectomy
Post-pneumonectomy chylothorax is an uncommon complication following surgery, with an estimated incidence of less than 0.7%. Post-pneumonectomy tension chylothorax, where rapid accumulation of chyle in the post-pneumonectomy space results in hemodynamic compromise, is exceedingly rare, with just 7 cases previously reported. All prior cases of tension chylothorax were managed operatively with de...
متن کاملBilateral chylothorax complicating massive osteolysis (Gorham's syndrome)
Chylothorax may rarely occur in osteolysis. A fatal case of bilateral chylothorax complicating massive osteolysis is described and the pathogenesis and management are discussed.
متن کاملChylothorax: diagnosis by lipoprotein electrophoresis of serum and pleural fluid.
This report describes a 31-year-old woman who underwent a technically difficult left pneumonectomy for tuberculosis and developed thereafter a large left pleural effusion which was milky in colour. A traumatic chylothorax was suspected, and the diagnosis was confirmed by simultaneous fasting pleural and serum lipid studies and lipoprotein electrophoresis. The latter study was especially helpful...
متن کاملChylothorax complicating a thoracic aortic aneurysm.
Chylothorax is an uncommon condition, usually associated with advanced malignant disease or trauma to the thoracic duct. Idiopathic chylothorax and other diverse causes have been anecdotally reported. We describe a rare case of chylothorax, developing as a result of damage to the thoracic duct by a thoracic aortic aneurysm. Tetracycline pleurodesis was successful in controlling the chylous effu...
متن کاملBilateral Chylothorax Complicating a Case of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia: A Case Report
Chylothorax occurs when lymphatic fluid leaks from the thoracic duct and accumulates in the pleural space. Bilateral chylothorax caused by chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) has been rarely reported in the literature. Sludging of lymph might be the underlying cause. We present a case of bilateral chylothorax in a patient with CLL.We also briefly discuss etiology, possible pathogenesis in our ca...
